David Kershenbaum has an impressive history in the music industry both as an A&R and a music producer. He has produced over 75 international gold and platinum albums and is credited for signing artists such as Janet Jackson, Joe Jackson and Brian Adams. He has also produced artists such as Tracy Chapman, Duran Duran and Cat Stevens. David earnt 3 Grammy awards with Tracy Chapman’s album which included “Best Producer of the Year”.

I was lucky enough today to speak with David over the phone, and get an indepth profile of his journey. Over the phone David presents himself as a great communicator, which leads me to strongly believe that communication is a key trait any good producer must have. Whilst his track record is phenominal, and possibly intimidating in covering the profound success, David was an absolute joy to speak to, and had the ability to make me feel comfortable almost immediately in the interview process.

The interview covered his journey from way back to the tender age of five, through to his successes in the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s and up until today. David shares some of his unique techniques he has developed, in particular the recording techniques he applied with Tracy Chapmans hugely successful recordings.
