With the Music Producers Forum’s first studio workshop, I was inspired to find a good case study to post. I found and absolute classic from the iconic 70’s group Steely Dan.

A pioneering Jazz Fusion band, Steely Dan developed most of hit tunes in the studio, with a long list of the best studio musician of the day. In this Youtube video, core members Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, take you through their production, right from the desk playing the original master tracks.

And after you’ve seen the production documentary, check out the below live production. A rendition that is true to the recorded version, and show’s that these boys still have it, the ability to cut it live and attract some amazing musicians to join them on stage.

Another late night Youtube find, Darrell Craig Harris-Cort is a US based bass player who has a very interesting career journey with the bass guitar, including playing gigs with, Little Richard, Disneyworld, Del Shannon, The Platters, The Drifters, The Coasters, Mike Zerbe (Air Supply drummer) to name a few.

At the Entech tradeshow, I met Newcastle based Guitarist/Producer Adam Miller. He was demoing some fine new guitar effects units on the Amber Technology stand. He just recently sent me a follow up email, and I’m glad he did. After having a listen to his songs on MySpace, I was hooked. Adam has released 4 albums, and has travelled to the US meeting up with guitar legend, Les Paul.

The Music Producers Forum will be interviewing Adam in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, check out his licks and tunes on the below links.
