Indaba Music is an international community of musicians, music professionals, and fans exploring the creative possibilities of making music with people in different places. It makes finding other people, and working on recording, mixing, or mastering projects easier. For fans, Indaba provides unprecedented access to artists and to the creative process.
www.myspace.com/musofaqsydney is a Myspace page dedicated to the supporting the Sydney Indie scene. It has links and information for local music associations, community radio stations, open mics and singing competitions. Well worth adding as a friend for any songwriter, producer, artist or musician with a Myspace account.
FBi invites bands, musicians, labels, promoters and publicists into the offices in Alexandria on the first Monday of every month for the monthly FBi OPEN DAY. The OPEN DAYS are on from 3-6pm and you’re welcome to come in to discuss your latest projects, recordings, releases and gigs. If you’re bringing in CDs, please bring a few copies to distribute to different broadcasters – this gives you a better chance of airplay. FBi studios are located at 44-54 Botany Road, Redfern – on the street level below Troy Horse studios.

February 11-13, Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre
With less than four weeks until doors open on ENTECH 2008, training and professional development is again taking shape as a major focus of the tradeshow. Yamaha Commercial Audio, Bosch Communications Systems, Jands and ULA have all announced free interactive demonstrations, seminars and hands-on training for visitors.
“We have a fantastic conference and seminar program from ALIA, TFWM and InfoComm Academy, as well as some great workshops from our Demo Room partners”, says Louise Brooks, Event Organiser for Exhibitions and Trade Fairs Pty Ltd.
“These programs are a great way for visitors to meet with industry leaders and upgrade their skills”, Louise says. “They also are a valuable networking opportunity for clients and potential buyers, and a chance to test-drive new technologies and see how they could work in their business.”
This week, Yamaha announced their training sessions, to be conducted by Yamaha’s Commercial Audio Trainers. According to Yamaha’s Shaun Herberg, “Training sessions will have a strong hands-on emphasis, and will put trainees behind Yamaha digital mixing consoles and audio equipment to take on a variety of real-world tasks.” Sessions include: Introduction and Masterclass on the PM5DV2 and DSP5D; Live Mixing with M7CL and LS9; and a Network Audio Workshop on Cobranet and EtherSound networks.
Bosch Communications Systems is giving visitors the chance to experience a range of powered and non-powered loudspeakers in their Demo Room. Visitors can hear Electro-Voice and Dynacord speakers put through their paces throughout the show, including the latest additions to the D-LITE range.
Jands have confirmed three days of training sessions for their Demo Room: Wireless Technologies; powered loudspeakers from JBL; Sound System Performance Criteria and Specifications; BLU-Link DSP; Vari*lite VL3500 Wash; and demystifying Dimming.
On Monday and Tuesday, Feb 11 and 12, ULA is running training sessions on Wireless Solution’s W-DMX technology, Robe’s Media Fusion Software, Digital Spot and Colorwash 750AT Tungsten, LED in entertainment and Avolites’ Pearl Tiger and Diamond 4 Consoles.
On Monday, February 11, ALIA is hosting three 90 minute seminars for lighting professionals: What you really need to know about Testing and Tagging; Starting out in Lighting Design; and Networks and Protocols – the glue that holds complex systems together. Each features a panel of industry luminaries, and includes a Q&A session.
Technologies for Worship Magazine is bringing the TFWM Conference to Australia for the first time, three days of tech training programs catering to the specialist needs of Churches and Houses of Worship. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to reach Houses of Worship on a global level,” says Shelagh Rogers, President and Founder of TFWM. The TFWM Conference
features sessions on video, audio and tech team building, presented by Dan Stark, Donnie Haulk and David Rauch.
The InfoComm Academy Workshop on Wednesday, February 13 is a full-day seminar on earthing and power systems for audio visual installations.
