Guitarist, Music Reviews

Andy McKee

At the Entech trade show a few weeks ago, I started talking to a guitarist who was running some demonstrations on one of the stands. I was trying to describe this amazing guitarist that I stumbled upon on the internet. I had forgotten his name, and I started to try to describe some the range of videos of him playing some originals and some covers. But before I could even start the description, “Andy McKee”, he said. “F**K” I replied, how did he know? Tommy Emmanuel was an earlier topic of conversation, so this would have narrowed the guess down I suppose.

Andy looks like someone who you wouldn’t want to run into a dark alley, or could feel you could take on any dark alley as long as he was your best mate along side you. I’d take the later, as I’d love to spend some time with guy so he could hopefully give some tips and inspiration to his playing.

There’s a healthy collection of Andy’s playing on YouTube, including a stunning rendition of Toto’s Africa. Below is the first one I stumbled across, and still my favourite thus far.
