On the 9 March 2008, Sydney Olympic Park hosted Acoustica for an outdoor live music experience for Sydneysiders enjoying the perfect autumn Sunday afternoon. Australian Idol finalist, Bobby Flynn was one of the headline acts accompanied only with an acoustic guitar.
It’s great to hear a guitar played using the range of dynamics, from soft right hand plucking to the hard strum. Many rely solely on the hard strum, years away from discovering what the guitar can communicate by using its limitless range of sounds it can produce. Dynamics, is the word.
Seeing Bobby play live for the first time, with his unique voice and the guitar he had to loan from Ngaiire, was a hair raising joy. Bobby is no guitar virtuoso, but the feel and the voice he brings from the guitar, is a rare find in many guitarists.
Acoustica featured other independent artists such as the Dave Bona Guitar Trio, Erin Marshall, Travis Collins, Ngaiire, Zkye and Irwin Thomas. This inaugural Acoustica at Sydney Olympic Park was a success by all accounts, and looks to be a date to mark on the annual events calendar.
