The Hon Peter Garrett MP as keynote speaker at Sydney Song Summit

Message from APRA

1 April 2008: APRA|AMCOS are pleased to announce The Hon Peter Garrett; Federal Minister for the Environment, Heritage and The Arts will deliver the keynote speech at the inaugural Song Summit Sydney (S³), event which commences at the Hordern Pavilion on this Thursday, April 3.

Mr Garrett will take to the podium at 3.30pm on Thursday April 3 to deliver a keynote speech to delegates covering the topic The Politics of Art.

Of his involvement with the event Mr Garrett said today,

“The act of creating a work like a song through the hard labour of imagination gives up something special which at one end entertains, at the other, feeds the soul. And in the case of the Australian music industry along the way provides a unique reflection of our ideals, our values and of course fuel for our economy.”

“We are honoured to have Mr Garrett – an APRA member for 30 years – join us at Song Summit Sydney,” said APRA|AMCOS CEO Brett Cottle. “Mr Garrett has a keen awareness of not only the cultural value of music, but also its significant social and economic value. S3 delegates will have an unparalleled opportunity to hear Mr Garrett, one of Australia’s leading songwriters, discuss the importance and the future of the Arts and music, within a political framework.”

Song Summit Sydney (S³), presented by APRA|AMCOS, together with the NSW Government is a unique event dedicated to the art and craft of songwriting. The event will see music creators, managers, publishers, technicians, marketers, lawyers and deal makers get together for three dynamic days of learning, networking, workshops and, of course, performances. S³ will span all genres of music and each facet of the music life-cycle; from creation, through promotion to distribution.

Registrations for the three day event are limited and are now open.
