Born as Peter Hernandez in 1985, Bruno Mars is of Filipino and Puerto Rican descent with his family being professional musicians and performers. In 2004 his quest for success in the music industry began.
A year after leaving his home state of Hawaii for the bright lights of LA, Bruno Mars was ‘stone broke’, and before forging his career in the music industry, he was signed with Motown records but the relationship with the label simply didn’t work.
After signing with Atlantic records in 2009, the following year brought the dream breakthrough with a catalogue of songs starting with collaborative hits “Nothing on you” with B.o.B. and “Billionaire” with Travie McCoy. It was the world wide hit song “Just the way you are” that established him as a successful solo artist. 2011 saw him nominated for 7 Grammy awards, taking home the Best Male Artist award.
Later in 2011, his success continues with collaborations with rapper/producer Eminem on the song “Lighters”, and in September it was announced that one of his songs “Will it Rain” will be feature in the Twilight Saga movie, Breaking Dawn.
Persistence, a strong catalogue of songs and a being a part of a network of artists and production team (The Smeezingtons) are some of the ingredients that solidified success for Mars.
A well rounded artist, who writes, performs, collaborates and produces music, the story of the start of his success is told in the below documentary, Bruno Mars: Coming Home.
